The veteran centre-back has been linked with move back to his former employers once his Ibrox deal expires next summer.

But that was news to Hill, who admits at 38 he cannot look any further ahead that Wednesday's clash with St Johnstone.

He said: "I don't know where that story has come from. Maybe they needed to fill some space in the paper and they have put that in.

"I've not heard anything and I'd be very surprised if it did come off because four or five months ago I was released by QPR.

"I've not had any thoughts about next season. I'm too old to even think about that.

"I try to take each game as it comes. I don't know what the situation is next season.

"I'll see how the body is and how it repairs and then judge from there."

Hill's experience came in handy for the Light Blues on Saturday as they edged past Inverness with a narrow 1-0 win at Ibrox.

Brad McKay's own goal gave Mark Warburton's men the points but they had keeper Wes Foderingham to thank for a series of important saves, while Hill was forced to scramble clear on more than one occasion.

The win maintains Gers' seven point cushion in second and Hill that no matter where he is next season, Gers will be able to take another step towards recovering their former status in the game.

"It was a tough game, so credit to Inverness," said the defender. "They are sitting bottom of the table but you'd never know that by the way they played.

"But we were below the standards we have set over the last four or five games.

"The positive is that we managed to play not so great but get the win and survive a bit of a scare.

"We're still in second. One of the objectives this season is to get into Europe and back where this club belongs.

"Hopefully we can stay in the position where we are now and reach that objective. But there is still a long way to go."

Caley Thistle boss Richie Foran admits he wishes Wednesday's clash with Motherwell would come around sooner so his team could shake Saturday's loss from their system.

He said: "It's a deflating result. I wish Motherwell was tomorrow because those players can't wait to get back out there and perform again.

"Rangers got lucky with the goal. Carl Tremarco has done his job, he hasn't let Waghorn inside, he's sent him down the line.

"But he's banged it across the goal and unfortunately it hit Brad and went in the net.

"Man for man we were fantastic and we'll go again."
