Man United outcast makes surprise appearance at Old Trafford in derby triumph Henrikh Mkhitaryan missing from Manchester United EFL Cup squad

Manchester United’s outcasted midfielder was at his team’s EFL Cup showdown with neighbours Manchester City.

The 32-year-old provided his support as the Red Devils prevailed 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Juan Mata.

Schweinsteiger has not been part of the first-team set-up at all this season, having made just two Premier League appearances in 2016.

Jose Mourinho tried to offload the World Cup winner in the summer, as he is not considered as part of the manager’s plans.

But with his current exile from the team, Schweinsteiger still wishes to show his allegiance to United.

Last night, he tweeted: “Manchester derby tonight. Looking forward to the game! Good luck, guys!”

And then after the victory, Schweinsteiger added: “Derby win! Great job Man Utd!”

The ex-Bayern Munich man has outlined his intention to not join another European club if he is to leave United, with China and the MLS possible destinations.

Meanwhile, Mourinho hailed his midfield after their performance against City.

Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick made up the trio in the middle as United contained Pep Guardiola’s attack to earn a place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

A home tie with West Ham was United’s reward.
