Bayern Munich pulled three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday, with Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim now the teams in pursuit after defeat for Cologne and a draw for Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern won the weekend's big match against Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 to bring to an end a two-game winless run.

Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa supplied the goals for Carlo Ancelotti's men, who controlled proceedings from start to finish at the Allianz Arena.

Hertha Berlin leapfrogged Cologne into second place with a 2-1 win at the Olympiastadion - a result which brings an end to the Goats' unbeaten start to the season.

Vedad Ibisevic and Niklas Stark were on target for the Old Lady, with Anthony Modeste netting Cologne's consolation to keep his name at the top of the goalscoring charts.

Hoffenheim's unbeaten record this season is still intact after their emphatic 3-0 win at an out-of-sorts Bayer Leverkusen, who slumped to mid-table.

A red card for Leverkusen's Kevin Volland played into Hoffenheim's hands, with goals from Kerem Demirbay, Sandro Wagner and Steven Zuber earning Julian Nagelsmann's men a win which took them into third place - four points behind Bayern.

Borussia Dortmund lost ground on the leaders with a 3-3 draw at winless Ingolstadt, who had twice led by two goals at the Audi Sportpark.

Almog Cohen and Dario Lezcano gave the hosts a 2-0 lead before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the visitors hope.

Lezcano's second restored the hosts' two-goal advantage before goals from Adrian Ramos and Christian Pulisic earned the visitors a point which nevertheless leaves them now six adrift of Bayern.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Freiburg beat Augsburg 2-1 with goals from Maximilian Philipp and Nils Petersen, with Halil Altintop netting a consolation, and Wolfsburg's miserable season continued with a 3-1 defeat at Darmstadt.

Mario Gomez may have got his first goal back in German football, but Anis Ben-Hatira, Laszlo Kleinheisler and Sandro Sirigu ensured it would be a losing debut on the Wolves' bench for caretaker coach Valerien Ismael.

A red card to Jeffrey Bruma compounded Wolfsburg's woes as they dropped below their hosts into 15th place.

On Friday night, new Hamburg coach Markus Gisdol suffered a miserable home debut as the strugglers crashed to a 3-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

An own goal from Lewis Holtby before half-time set the tone for the northern Germany side, who were reduced to 10 men when Dennis Diekmeier picked up a second yellow card in the 57th minute.

Shani Tarashaj doubled Frankfurt's lead soon after with his first Bundesliga goal before Haris Seferovic added a third for Niko Kovac's men.
