Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is the new favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

Punters forced the price on Conte down in the 'sack race' market with a string of bets.

As part of an industry-wide gamble, Sky Bet reacted by slashing their price from 20/1 to 2/1 on Thursday afternoon and by 1930BST in the eveningg the Italian was 11/8 favourite.

Spokesman Sandro Di Michele said the firm had seen "a steady stream of money" on Conte in the market.

He added: "This was certainly not expected but the weight of money suggests there could well be something in it.

"We've seen plenty of comings and goings at Stamford Bridge in the past so never rule out a surprise move like this when it comes to Chelsea."

There have been media suggestions that Conte and owner Roman Abramovich are not seeing eye to eye over transfer policy, while a falling out with midfielder Nemanja Matic, a key man in Chelsea's title success of 2014/15, has also been rumoured.

Former Italy boss Conte only joined the club in July, charged with reviving the Blues' fortunes after a miserable defence of their title last season.

Over the past month, Chelsea have seen a good start to 2016/17 stutter with defeats to title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal seeing them slip to seventh in the table.

They return to action after the international break at home to reigning champions Leicester this weekend, while games with Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham and Manchester City are all due to be played before Christmas.

West Ham's Slaven Bilic, the previous favourite, saw his odds moved out from 9/4 to 5/1 following a poor start to the campaign by West Ham. Sunderland's David Moyes and Mark Hughes, of Stoke, are all available at the same price.

Burnley's Sean Dyche, who went as short as 9/4 on Wednesday following speculation that he could join Aston Villa, drifted to 16/1. That role has now been filled by Steve Bruce.
