Martin Keown slams Arsenal star: He can’t carry on like this Arsenal 2-1 Burnley: 10 key stats

Xhaka lost his cool in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Burnley and was sent off after a reckless challenge on Steven Defour.

The dismissal was the Swiss star’s ninth in his past three years.

And former Arsenal defender-turned-pundit Keown is adamant that Xhaka needs to be shown the art of tackling by Arsene Wenger or else his Emirates career won’t last too long.

Express Sport brings you 10 key stats from Arsenal's win over Burnley

If he keeps getting sent off then it will only shorten his stay at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger

“With both of his red cards for Arsenal this season, Xhaka cleaned out his opponent with no chance of winning the ball,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

“The 24-year-old needs to eradicate that mentality from his game. If you go in with both feet, you are off the pitch.

“He must also practise one-v-one situations with players running at him in training so he can learn how to slow them down before tackling them.

Martin Keown with Arsene Wenger

Martin Keown thinks Arsene Wenger has a lot of work to do with Granit Xhaka

“With some players there can be an element of laziness. It is much easier to tackle straight away rather than running 20, 30 yards before making the challenge.

“Xhaka cannot go on like this. He needs to get out of the habit of trying to win the ball straight away.

“If he keeps getting sent off then it will only shorten his stay at Arsenal.”
