Rooney took to Twitter to post his thoughts, however he used the wrong tense when thanking the supporters.

He tweeted: “Have to say our fans tonight was unbelievable.”

Eagle-eyed tweeters spotted the mistake, and one United fan replied: “Does Rooney have any GCSEs seriously?”

However, Rooney showed he has a self-deprecating side.

In response, he tweeted: “No I don’t” and this was accompanied with two sunglasses emojis.
