Rooney took to Twitter to post his thoughts, however he used the wrong tense when thanking the supporters.
He tweeted: “Have to say our fans tonight was unbelievable.”
Eagle-eyed tweeters spotted the mistake, and one United fan replied: “Does Rooney have any GCSEs seriously?”
However, Rooney showed he has a self-deprecating side.
In response, he tweeted: “No I don’t” and this was accompanied with two sunglasses emojis.
Rooney and United will be hoping to avoid a banana skin when they face Wigan in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday (4pm).
