It was a good performance again, a good attitude and we controlled the game in large periods against a big team. It is impossible at this moment to feel really happy.

The goal we conceded is not a normal goal, we lost control at the vital moment.

It is important that we won the game. We have won three games in a row at home and when I arrived we had won once in two months. I congratulated the players in the dressing room.

Sure I hope to improve the squad with three or four players. We need them. We have 15 or 16 players, it's not normal at this level.

You don't get many chances to win a trophy so we have to grab that chance.

Paul Pogba has been missing in action for most of the night.

But special players produce special moments and he has reminded us all of his presence to settle United's nerves.

Just as Hull sensed a famous comeback, Pogba has struck on 66 minutes to make it 1-1 on the night at 3-1 to United overall.

It's now beyond Hull's reach and all Mourinho's men have to do is cruise towards he final whistle and they can start thinking about having some Wembley suits measures up.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has seen a low shot superbly tipped wide by David Marshall in the Hull goal.

But all in all, United are producing a masterclass in how to make life difficult for yourself.

Hull head into half time having halved the deficit and with a genuine chance of overturning the scoreline.

Marco Silva's men might as well give it their all after the break. The prize is enormous and United look to be there for the taking.

Hull have been handed the sniff of a comeback here after Marcus Rojo barged over Harry Maguire to concede a penalty.

It was soft, but the home side are not complaining and Tom Huddlestone has converted it, beating David De Gea low down to his right.

United have been shocking and need to pull their fingers out before the problems get worse.

Marcus Rashford is doing his best on the right hand side to kick-start United's evening but he's lacking support.

On the 25th minute there is a round of applause for Ryan Mason, whose picture is shown on the big screen.

Mason is recovering in hospital from a fractured skull suffered in a collision with Gary Cahill at Chelsea last weekend. He's not been forgotten.

This game is poor. Neither side appears that interested in making it a spectacle. Perhaps getting to Wembley isn't all it used to be?

Sam Clucas saw a free kick punched clear by David De Gea while at the opposite end United still haven't threatened.

At this rate both goalkeepers will be in serious danger of catching pneumonia.

It's Jose Mourinho's birthday too - and I'm sure he's spent previous ones in more glamorous surroundings than these.

It's not often Hull can match Liverpool, but the weather here on Humberside is just as cold as it was at Anfield 24 hours earlier.

Wayne Rooney might be relieved to be on the bench, so he can keep wrapped up in his tracksuit and winter coat.

That's his reward for becoming Manchester United's greatest ever goalscorer last weekend at Stoke.

Boss Jose Mourinho makes five changes in all as United look to get the job done with a 2-0 lead heading into this EFL Cup semi-final, second leg.

It's safe to say cup fever hasn't gripped the Tigers. The stadium is struggling to fill up and manager Marco Silva appears to share the enthusiasm of fans.

He's made seven changes and left some of his best stars on the bench. Avoiding relegation is obviously far more important, but having a genuine crack at reaching Wembley has to be worth a shot.

It's time for Mata and Mkhitaryan to have their rest, for Lingard and Rashford to play, bring their speed and happiness. Valencia also needed a rest.

They're called the the WR250 Hypervenom (which sounds like some kind of American machine gun) but they don't have any lights on the side... they've missed a trick there.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino visited Ryan Mason in hospital today. Nice bloke.

The former Spurs midfielder is continuing his recovery from a fractured skull having undergone surgery at St Mary's Hospital in London.

Hull have since released a statement to say Mason is making "excellent progress," while Spurs players sent him a video message from their warm-weather training in Barcelona.

Pochettino said: "The squad sent a video from Barcelona to him, he is a special player for us and to me personally, he grew up here at Tottenham, he is a person that we love."

There's always a negative with Jose.

Mourinho is wary of potential fixture congestion should Manchester United reach the EFL Cup final.

United seem on course for the Wembley showpiece but reaching the February 26 final would mean the Premier League game against Manchester City, scheduled for the same day, would have to be rearranged.

Mourinho said: "I know that it's going to be hard if we go step by step. If, if, if - we go to the field of the ifs - but if we beat Hull and we play the final then we don't play against Manchester City.

"The match against Manchester City I'm sure they will choose an amazing moment, difficult for us, to make us play against them.

"Then we have Europa League, a non-stop competition. In the Europa League you have to play last 32 and last 16. If we are going to progress it's going to be really difficult."

Anthony Martial’s not involved again… and Manchester United fans aren't too happy about it.

Martial was left out of Jose Mourinho's squad for Saturday's Premier League draw at Stoke and was given permission to take some time off.

It has since been rumoured he was in Paris rather than the bet365 Stadium.

Mourinho has no issue with that, and challenged the winger to prove he deserves his place in the Manchester United starting XI.

He said: "Normally, I take one of the left out players to prevent any problem in the warm-up.

"But we don't have many days off, so I like to give the other players some freedom to choose if they need a weekend off when they are not selected. If, for him, it was better to go to Paris, that's completely fine.

"I don't think he lost his focus. I just think he didn't catch with both hands a big opportunity he had.

"We have still five players for these positions. I cannot give to one player chances to play and kill the others. I cannot give to the same player chance after chance after chance and not consider the effort of the others."

Rio Ferdinand can't understand why Wayne Rooney doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Rooney, already England's top goalscorer, finally surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton's Manchester United mark with his 250th goal for the club on Saturday.

Yet the 31-year-old continues to divide opinion among supporters.

And Ferdinand, Rooney's team-mate for United and England for 10 years, feels Rooney would be more appreciated in Europe than in his homeland.

He said: "I don't know what it is. I try to put my finger on it all the time.

"He is putting up numbers that nobody has done. He is surpassing records - landmark records that nobody has been near for 40 years. But there's always a 'but'. Why?

"I think he's appreciated more on the continent than he is in this country and that's a shame because a lot of foreign teams would love to have taken him many times."

The odds are heavily stacked against them.
