Narrow wins expected for top two

Our Sky Bet EFL expert Nick Hext is backing both Brighton and Newcastle to claim narrow wins on Saturday.

Sky Bet Championship

Back Brighton to beat Burton by one goal

Both Brighton and Newcastle are in need of wins on Saturday after a frustrating few weeks in the Sky Bet Championship promotion race. The second-placed Seagulls' FA Cup exit at the hands of non-league Lincoln was followed up with defeat at Huddersfield and a draw against Brentford. The point claimed against the Bees though has raised spirits for Brighton thanks to Tomer Hemed's equaliser in the seventh minute of injury-time. A return to the Amex Stadium is good news for Chris Hughton's men and I expect a third one-goal win in a row on their own turf. Burton have been struggling for victories but they provide sturdy opposition and three of their last four defeats on the road have been by just one goal.

Back Newcastle to beat Wolves by one goal

There is an interesting contest in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Saturday evening as Wolves host top-of-the-table Newcastle. Wolves are struggling down in 18th in the Sky Bet Championship but their recent form has been encouraging, including the FA Cup victory at Liverpool and success at home to Aston Villa in their last game at Molineux. Newcastle are back ahead of Brighton at the summit and the 1-0 win at home to Derby last weekend was a great way to get back on track from a couple of games without a victory. I think the Magpies will just about come out on top in this match so go with Rafael Benitez's side to win by one goal as they have for both of their previous two away successes.

Sky Bet League One

Back Fleetwood to beat Rochdale

I'm definitely interested in the 6/4 for Fleetwood to win at home to Rochdale. The Cod Army are unbeaten in their last 10 home games in Sky Bet League One, winning seven of those matches and drawing three, and that excellent record at Highbury has helped lift them up to fourth. Uwe Rosler's men have a seven-point deficit to catch second-placed Scunthorpe but there is still over a third of the remaining so nothing is settled yet. Rochdale's play-off ambitions have been hit by a four-match winless run, including two 4-0 losses, and I reckon the price is inviting for another Dale defeat in this encounter.

Back Coventry to beat Oldham

It has been a very rare good news week for Coventry after reaching the final of the Checkatrade Trophy at Wembley with a 2-1 win at home to Wycombe. However, it isn't so promising for the bottom-of-the-table Sky Blues in Sky Bet League One. Russell Slade's men are eight points adrift of safety but I think they can win at Oldham, who sit in the final place in the relegation zone, to cut that gap. The struggling Latics have improved since John Sheridan's return as manager but I think nearly 3/1 is too big for Coventry to win in this clash between two sides struggling at the wrong end of the standings.

Sky Bet League Two

Back Notts County to beat Cheltenham

I'm surprised Notts County are outsiders with home advantage against fellow Sky Bet League Two strugglers Cheltenham. New boss Kevin Nolan has plenty of work to do in charge of the Magpies but they won their last match at home to Crawley and there has been some upturn in momentum since the former West Ham midfielder's arrival at Meadow Lane. Cheltenham are right in the thick of the League Two relegation fight with County and I just don't think the visitors can be considered favourites in this clash between two struggling sides.

Back Wycombe to beat Stevenage

Wycombe's win at home to Portsmouth was good news for followers of these tips last weekend. I'm keen on the Chairboys again this time out when they travel to Stevenage despite a disappointing defeat at Coventry in midweek. That loss stopped Wycombe just one match from Wembley in the Checkatrade Trophy but I think Gareth Ainsworth will have his men motivated to bounce back. Stevenage are decent on their own turf but I'm keen to give Wycombe another go as they continue to mount a Sky Bet League Two promotion challenge.
