Sky sources understand Warburton, David Weir and Frank McParland "categorically deny" quitting Rangers despite the club saying they have resigned in a statement on Friday evening.

Rangers said that they had been advised earlier this week that the trio "wished to resign their positions and leave the club on condition that Rangers agreed to waive its rights to substantial compensation".

Sky Bet have opened a market on the race to be the next Rangers manager and former Nottingham Forest and Derby boss Billy Davies is the early 11/8 favourite.

Aberdeen manager and former Rangers midfielder Derek McInnes is second in the odds at 7/2 and Frank de Boer, another man who enjoyed a spell at Ibrox during his playing career, can be backed at 6/1.

Graeme Souness is a surprise contender at 8/1 to return to the club he left in 1991, Ex-Birmingham manager Gary Rowett is an interesting contender to move north at 12/1 and Alan Pardew can be supported at 25/1 to return to __football at Ibrox.

Odds correct at 2150 GMT on 10/02/17.
